Destination Heaven

What would you say if you physically came face-to-face with God? Would you yell, stutter in confusion, or just sit awkwardly and stare at Him? That's the premise behind my latest entertainment pick.

This week, I was looking for something different to watch on Pure Flix for my segment on my husband's radio show when we stumbled across the series Destination Heaven. This series is one season of short episodes--about 30 minutes each--and each episode stands alone. There is only one recurring character in the series--God--as imagined by the creators of the show.  Some people might not envision Him the same way as those behind the casting for the show, and that may make the way He looks surprising, but the actor does a superb job in the role.

Each episode revolves around a conversation or multiple conversations between God and the other character or characters in the episode. Some of the episodes--well most of them--show what might happen when we seek God and to communicate with Him. Others touched on how God might choose to begin a conversation with us. Either way, the clear message seems to be that we are not expected to communicate perfectly. We are simply to seek connection.

Another clear message in this series is that being a believer in God does not make your life smooth sailing and easy.  Everyone has troubles. The key is knowing where to turn when you run into those troubles, and how to listen for the answers you need--whether they are the ones you want or not.

Sometimes, all it takes to remind you of the important things is finding a new show to watch. I enjoyed Destination Heaven. I do wish there was more than one season, but it's an easy series to binge watch in just a few hours on a rainy Saturday afternoon.
